Since I have one of the worst commutes in the Seattle area, I've noticed that it's the little things that make all the difference.
For example, a week ago when I was in heavy traffic on 520, a woman driving in front of me was greedily smoking cigarette after cigarette. I have nothing against people who smoke, except when the toxic chemicals waft in my direction.
On this particular day, the traffic and weather conditions were perfect for the acrid smoke to drift my way (I counted 4 cigarettes in about 25 minutes).
So if you have to smoke in stop-and-go traffic, here's what I request (yes, I'm talking to you 192-VBD):
- Don't hang your cigarette outside your car window--roll it up!
- Recirculate the air in your car so you can breathe in as much smoke as possible.
- Close your sunroof (if you have one).
- Dispose of your cigarette in the ashtray--not the side of the freeway.
Your fellow human beings stuck in commute hell will thank you, and I'm sure you'll enjoy all that smoke you've been missing. Thanks!
I do not smoke,and I never will...but what I don't understand is how smokers who smoke outside ,either outside a buisness or like this outside a car window,always tend to have their smoke smelled first over everything else...I think the real toxic fumes from the car will kill you a lot faster than the cigarette smoke...
ReplyDeleteIt's not a matter of the cigarette smoke killing me (although if I'm around it enough, I'm sure it will). It's about the noxious smell of a cigarette. The only thing worse than a cigarette hanging out a window in stop-and-go traffic is a poorly tuned car (and some diesel exhaust) in the same conditions.
ReplyDeleteThe 4,700 chemical compounds in cigarette smoke are enough for me to complain here, and one of the reasons cigarettes are being banned in more and more places.
All I'm asking is for smokers to roll up their windows in stop-and-go traffic.
